Saemaul Volunteer Corps

The SGF sends Saemaul volunteers, primarily consisting of university students and technical experts, to pilot villages to give them an opportunity to promote the values and vision of Saemaul Undong and experience first-hand the elevated status and role of Gyeongsangbuk-do as a donor for international development and cooperation initiatives.

Procedure of Implementation
  • 01 Establishment of a plan (March-April)
    • Establish a detailed implementation plan
    • Discuss with relevant organizations and select regions
  • 02 Make a preparatory visit to the site (late April)
    • Hold discussions with local offices of KOICA and local governments (on accommodations, meals, and transportation)
    • Gather the materials required to make plans for activities in the region
  • 03 Recruit and select members of the volunteer corps (late May-June)
    • Make recruitment announcement and receive application forms
    • Screen applications, conduct interviews, and select members of the volunteer corps
  • 04 Conduct training (late June)
    • Offer special training on Saemaul Undong
    • Confirm theaction plan
    • Hold an orientation session and learn from those who have performed community work as members of the volunteer corps
  • 05 Launch ceremony and dispatch (early July)
    • Hold a launch ceremony (recitation of the resolution and offering of words of encouragement) and leave the country to carry out community service work
  • 06 Perform community service work (2 weeks in early July)
    • Allocate roles and responsibilities based on the action plan
    • Provide medical, educational, and other services needed in the region
  • 07 Conduct evaluation and hold disbanding ceremony(early August)
    • Give and evaluate presentations on the activities of each team
    • Hold a ceremony to disband the corps and provide feedbackbased on the findings of the evaluation
